Glenhaven House was conceived as a bespoke, traditionally built property utilising time tested construction methods and incorporating the very latest energy efficient materials and techniques. To successfully undertake this project required a builder with the experience, capability and flexibility to create what is now a unique, highly specified home built to the highest standards of construction and finish.

From the outset John and his team proved themselves to be extremely capable and efficient. They were also a pleasure to work with. Throughout the project John was highly communicative and responsive – a quality which I believe is critical to any build project and especially so on a project of this size and complexity.
I have no hesitation in unreservedly recommending John and his team to anyone considering building their own property.

Steve Haycock, July 2013
Work has been done on time and within the schedule with no extras and to our satisfaction. They always tried to do what was asked of them and good at thinking ahead so there was very little downtime. Staff were good workers, created no hassle and were helpful.
Looking back this was a job well done.
Kennetside Head Farm Kelso, Mr Mitchell, 2011/2012
“I was so impressed with the work that John Lawrie had completed for previous clients that I had no doubts about employing John and his team to renovate and extend my 150 year old cottage. Not only did they carry out the work with expertise and commitment to detail but also had to contend with battling the one of the worst winters for several years! During the build I suffered a tragic loss and lost the incentive to carry on with the project. John Lawrie and his team provided me with tremendous support, morally and physically. The outcome was a beautiful, sympathetically extended addition which blended the new with the old which I believe would not have happened without John Lawrie and his excellent team.”
Charles Catto, Linden Cottage, Dolphinton
“It took John Lawrie and his team just six and a half months to build our “traditional built” detached house. We have been very pleased with the speed, dedication and hard work of John and his team. And, as you can see, we have a beautiful new home with the benefit of renewable energies in the form of a Ground Source Heat Pump and PV roof panels.

We have found John to be very reliable & easy to work with and are happy to recommend John Lawrie Construction.”

“In reference to Lawrie Construction, I confirm that the above company has been awarded and is currently working on a £400,000 contract at out ‘Jerviswood Park’ development in Cleghorn Lanark.
During the Tender process, they submitted a comprehensive and detailed quote which followed all information given. Their tender was returned in full, within state timescale. The contract is now in its 12th month, they have supplied an excellent workforce who are punctual and professional in their attitude, adhere to and are aware of all responsibilities regarding Health & Safety requirements and importantly are on schedule and working to the stated built programme.
I am extremely happy with all aspects of work completed by Lawrie Construction who also keep the site management team informed at all times regarding their work progress. I would have no problem in recommending Lawrie Construction and would be happy to work with them in future development projects.”

“John Lawrie and team worked with us on our Farm Steading renovation – from architectural drawings right through to completion. Throughout the complex project (and despite being a demanding and challenging customer!), we found that John and his team were excellent to work with – knowledgeable, good workmanship, flexible, fair and reasonable, communicative and hard-working. We have no hesitation in giving them the highest recommendation.”
Graeme and Pam MacArthur, Westmill Farm, Dolphinton

We opted for John over other builders not only because of the competitive price but also the quality of workmanship he could provide. John and his workforce were very competent throughout the build and john himself was always on hand to answer any issues we came across during the build . Nothing was ever to much bother for John and his workforce , right down to the labourers.”

Erection of all concrete bases for wind turbines and mett mast on the new Clyde wind farm development at Crawford.

“I would just like to thank you on behalf of Hanson Contracting for all your hard work at Clyde wind farm, this project as you know is the largest on shore wind farm in Europe comprising of 69 turbines with all associated ground works including – concreting, drainage, steel fixing and duct work that you have been involved with.

The concrete works that you have carried out at Clyde has been very successful with a very high standard of concrete finishing, and your joiners that fabricated the shutters has made a big impact on progress and programme enabling Hanson’s to keep up with our clients demanding programme.

When you where requested to carry out some night shifts; your self and your operatives got on with the works with again very high standards and completing the task well within the time scale set.

All the different tasks you have under taken at Clyde have been carried out safely and professionally with good detail to method statements and risk assessments. All operations involving excavations have always been accompanied by the correct paper work and relevant permits in place.

Again I would like to thank John Lawrie construction for all your hard work and if Hanson’s ever picked up another wind farm I would have no hesitation in inviting you to join us again.”

We hired John for a sizeable extension and renovation project to our holiday home on the Isle of Arran. The extension involved replacing the garage with two-storey accommodation that linked seamlessly to the rest of the house and we took the opportunity to upgrade other areas of the property, including new kitchen, heating, windows, internal doors, some new flooring and a complete redecoration (inside and out). John worked to the plans prepared by our architect but was able to add value to the designs when on-site presence indicated there was a better way to proceed. For example, John’s builders proposed a radical change to the designed pitch of the roof which meant that the usable area of the new master bedroom was increased substantially by raising the head height, without the need for further permissions to be obtained. We were based remotely for the duration of the project but John helped us to stay in touch with regular progress emails and photos of the work in progress. Somewhat unusually, given the remote location, John’s team of builders stayed in the existing property for the duration of the project, were careful not to cause any damage and were respectful to the local villagers, who were curious about the ongoing work. In particular, we were particularly impressed by the professionalism and attentiveness of the site foremen when we visited the site. The quality of the workmanship was consistently high across the project and we are delighted with the finished property. As the project involved a lot of changes to finishing of both the existing house and the extension, we had to agree a lot of scope ‘on the fly’ with John but he always approached these variations in a fair way and was prepared to negotiate the cost to meet our budgets. Although working on an island presented several challenges to John and his team, we have no hesitation in recommending them to others for similar projects.
